The Life of a Choreographer

I'm sure you've heard the expression "____________ can't make itself." This expression can be about anything, but in regards to dancing, this expression is entirely the truth. Out of everyone in the dance industry, choreographers know this to be true. "Who are choreographers?" you may ask. Today is the day you find out! In a nutshell, choreographers create and produce dance routines. But there's so much more than that that we don't get to see. Choreographers' daily lives are unique. Choreographers teach multiple classes a day, for one. They have busy schedules where they are always coaching classes. Also, some choreographers are managers, and they manage organizations and showcases. This means they produce, schedule, and coordinate performances. Choreographers also study scripts. If they are a choreographer for a big production, they have to review blocking, or working out the details of movements on stage, to make sure it will work for the performance. Not only that, sometimes choreographers have to produce these performances all by themselves. That's a lot of work, but that's how the business works. As an example, there are many choreographers on the hit show "So You Think You Can Dance." Choreographers on that show work hard to provide amazing dances for the show each episode. Some of them have Emmys under their belt! Fun fact: Did you know that, according to a survey conducted by owlguru.com, 49% of choreographers find that their job makes the world a better place. Just like dance itself, choreographers are making the world a happy place to live. (:
