All About Home Stretching: Pilates Style!

Dancers know that the best way to improve over summer vacation is to work hard at home. One method to easily increase your skills is Pilates. Pilates is a type of stretching workout that helps all dancers to better themselves. First of all, what is Pilates? Created in the 20th century by Joseph Pilates, it is a full-body workout that involves stretching and small exercises. Anyone can do Pilates, even non-dancers who want to get more flexible! Many people post videos on YouTube of Pilates workout routines that anyone can use. Pilates is a fun and easy way to get in shape since you don't need experience or even a big space to do it. If you have a yoga mat or small mat to use, you're all set for some Pilates! Pilates consists of slow and fast movements of your legs, arms, and abs. For example, as you lie down on your back, you might have to inhale as you pull your leg up as high as you can, and exhale as you slowly rest your leg back on the floor. This improves your flexibility and strength in your core and legs. This is a great way for dancers to get better, all while being at home. What's not to love! (:
